I’m a big fan of buffalo sauce. I put it on pizza, fries, and air fried tofu…all made WFPB of course! Most buffalo sauce is either made with butter, or has scary butter flavoring that is supposedly vegan, but certainly not healthy. This is a great, fast recipe made from ingredients you likely already have around in your cabinets. It’s also vegan, gluten free, and refined sugar free. This is how we made it.
Vegan Buffalo Sauce
Ingredients:
1 cup water
¼ cup raw cashews
2 garlic cloves
⅓ cup apple cider vinegar
2 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp maple syrup
¼ tsp cayenne (or less if you’re sensitive to heat, and more if you are all about the heat!)
¼ tsp salt
Directions:
Place all of the ingredients in a high-powered blender, and blend until smooth. Taste to test for the heat, and adjust accordingly.
Transfer the sauce to a small saucepan, and place over high heat. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer, and cook for a few minutes until it begins to thicken. Keep in mind, it will continue to thicken as it cools. Let it cool, and then use with your favorite recipe and especially our Air Fried Buffalo Tofu!
