I’ve been so into making my own plant based milk blends recently! It’s great because there aren’t any of the additives and thickeners, and it’s soooo cheap to make! Plus you can pick what nutrients you would like added to your milk. I like to use flax and pumpkin seeds for the essential fatty acids! This is such a healthy mix, and it’s so easy! This is how we made it:
How to Make Oat,Pumpkin, and Flax Seed Milk
Ingredients:
1 cup GF oats
½ cup pumpkin seeds
¼ cup flax seeds
8 cups of water
Nut milk bag (don’t blame me, I didn’t name it!)
Directions:
Soak the oats and pumpkin seeds for 6-8 hours.
Drain the oats and pumpkin seeds and then rinse them really well with cold water. The oats will get kind of gummy, so you want to rinse them until they feel pretty clear and not slimy.
Pour the mix into a blender then add ¼ cup flax seeds. Add as much water as you safely can into your blender. You will likely need to work in batches. I blend part of the water, then pour some of it off into a nut milk bag into a container big enough to hold 8 cups, then sort of mix it all together until it’s the same consistency.
Once the milk is blended, pour all of it through a nut milk bag and squeeze it to get all of the milk out!
You can add in a date or two for a little added sweetness, but I prefer mine plain for cooking with, etc!
