Fast, Easy, Cheap Oat and Hemp Milk

I’ve been making my own milk at home for a few months now, and it’s so cheap and easy that I can’t believe I didn’t start doing it sooner! You can get a 2.5 lb bag of organic gluten free oats on Amazon for $15, and it will last you MONTHS! It’s so amazing. Oat milk is also so delicious and creamy, and the flavor is so mild for cooking and baking. I like to add hemp seeds to mine for some added omegas, but you could leave them out if you’re just into oat milk. This is how we made it:


1 cup gluten free oats

2 tbsp hemp seeds

4 cups water

Optional add-ins:

1-2 dates if you want it sweeter

Pinch of salt


In a high powered blender, add all of the ingredients. Blend until completely smooth, but be careful not to overblend or your milk can get slimy. Basically, don’t turn your blender on while multitasking and walking your Pomeranian.

Now, you’ll want to work quickly here because oats are loaded with awesome water soluble fiber, and your mix will start to get more gelatinous if you wait to long to strain it.

Using either a nut milk bag, cheese cloth, or a very fine mesh strainer, strain the oats and hemp seeds out from the milk. Save the leftover oat bits and use them as a flour to make something like these delicious peanut butter cookies!

Store your milk in the fridge for about 5 days or until it starts to separate.
