Peaches and Cream Quinoa Smoothie

I used pea protein powder in my smoothies for years, but after switching to a WFPB diet two years ago, I’ve really started to question any refined products I use in my food. I’m also studying Ayurvedic Medicine, which focuses on the concept that we are not what we eat, but what we digest. Digestion really is the key to getting the most nutrients out of the food we eat, and I admittedly never felt so great after having a smoothie with protein powder. Then I discovered that you can add other protein sources to smoothies to feel full longer, and my world has changed! Guess what, quinoa works too! It’s a seed, it’s a great source of protein, and it adds a really nice texture to your smoothie. Where has this been my whole life?! It’s great because I not-so-secretly hate quinoa on it’s own, but in a smoothie you can’t even detect it! This is how we made it:

Peaches and Cream Quinoa Smoothie

Ingredients:

½ cup cooked quinoa

¾ cup plant based milk (I use this homemade oat milk)

¼ cup ice or additional plant based milk

1 whole peach, pitted and chopped

1 banana (fresh or frozen)

2 pitted dates

1 tbsp hemp seeds (optional)

½ tsp vanilla (optional)

Directions:

In a high powered blender, add all of the ingredients. Blend until smooth.
