Date Paste

Date paste is my favorite sweetener because dates are so freaking healthy, and it’s a good replacement for sweetening baked goods, oatmeal, and even coffee. I’ve gotten a lot of requests for the recipe I follow when I suggest date paste in my recipes, and it’s unbelievably easy! Ayurveda believes that are sattvic and promote peace of mind, and that they nourish our immune system. Best of all, dates are high in fiber, antioxidants, potassium, and magnesium. Ok, I lied, the best part is that they taste like caramel. This is how we made it:

Ingredients:

1 cup pitted dates

1 ¼ cup boiling water

Directions:

Pour the dates and the boiling water into the bowl of a high-powered blender. Let them sit for about 10-15 minutes, and perhaps up to 30 minutes if the dates are super dry.

Blend until super smooth and transfer to a container for storage.

Date paste keeps in the fridge for about 5-7 days and can also be frozen. I use it as a replacement for maple syrup, and depending on your tastes, you may be able to use it 1:1. I tend to use a little more date paste than I would with maple syrup since it is less sweet, but for those who aren’t a big fan of sweets, you may find you use the same amount as syrup.
