Since moving to Montreal from LA, the question I get asked the most is “Why?” The answer is obviously poutine. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do to be closer to potatoes smothered in gravy! There are a few places around town that have a vegan poutine, but it’s harder to find version that gluten-free, and impossible to find one that is also oil-free. I have a tub of gravy leftover from Thanksgiving, and I am not about to let it go to waste! If you already have gravy and cheese, this will be so fast and easy! This is how we made it:
Oil-Free Vegan Poutine
Ingredients:
1-2 Russet Potatoes, cut into french fry shapes
Pinch of Paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
½ cup Oil Free Mushroom Gravy (recipe here)
Grated Coconut Mozzarella Cheese (recipe here or store bought)
1 green onion, chopped
Additional toppings:
Sauteed onions and mushrooms
Gluten free sausage, crumbled
Directions:
Soak the cut potatoes in warm water for 10 minutes.
Drain, and toss with paprika, salt, and pepper. If you’re not avoiding oil, you could also toss in 1 tbsp of olive oil with the seasoning.
Coat your air fryer with a little oil and add the seasoned potatoes. Cook the potatoes for 10 minutes at 370 degrees. Shake them up, and then cook them for another 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, make our heat up your gravy and grate your cheese.
Top the fries with gravy, cheese, and green onion. Horde your plate from your partner, because you just made guilt free comfort food and the whole world will want some!
